The next chapter
When I first entered the recording studio, the experience was like therapy. I was 25-years-old and had been living out unlikely experiences for my age. Too untrusting to speak of my problems, I wrote about them and I sang of my hardships. Back to the Water tells the story of a long chapter in my life. Although life has not been easier since then, I am trying to hold on to a vision of my life that was lost in the midst of my day-to-day struggles.
We all get consumed by the chaos and sadness of our daily lives. For this reason, we focus on survival and maintaining peace of mind so much that we lose sight of our greater dreams and visions. If anything can be said about hard times, it is that you must never allow the upsets of everyday life to dampen the light of your dreams. And just because life does not go as we expect it to, that does not mean we should not continue to have high expectations.
Everyone has something that they are passionate about. It is the thing that you retreat to within yourself when you realize that you are the only one who can change your life. For me, my passion is music, and I hope that one day my songs will prove to be therapeutic to others. We are returning to the studio next week to begin recording another record. Though it will be very different from the first, our music will always reflect the hope of "rising" above the trivial and pursuing the meaningful.
